Counts such as 7, 21, 100, 108, 1,000, 10,000 or far larger accumulations occur across Buddhist ritual.
Counts can mark:
- consecration,
- retreat completion,
- purification,
- activation of an amulet,
- attainment of ritual “signs,”
- completion of mantra approach.
They are text- and lineage-specific rather than interchangeable numerology.
