A particularly useful chronological example:
- In a tradition dated to 1058, the boundary reached Fushiogami near the Lower Hall.
- In the Kamakura period it moved upward toward the Middle Shrine.
- In the Edo period women were permitted still farther, toward the Oku-sha zone at Koshimizu-hara.
