The text gives twenty-two numbered prohibitions, each followed by a celestial penalty measured in loss of lifespan/“calculations” (算).
Structural significance

- alcohol/meat;
- speech;
- family conduct;
- sexual behavior;
- money/property;
- transmission;
- violence;
- secrecy;
- ritual authority.
It is therefore both a moral code and a jurisdictional constitution for early Daoist religious life.
