What the text contains
Section titled “What the text contains”Fifteen chapters of Buddhist Gaṇapati ritual including:
- offering rites,
- mantra recitation,
- meditation,
- construction of Gaṇapati maṇḍalas,
- production of different Gaṇapati images,
- applications associated with those images,
- multiple forms of Gaṇapati and accompanying deities,
- mantra-syllable extraction.
General learning sequence
Section titled “General learning sequence”- Read the tantra’s introduction and map all fifteen chapters.
- Identify the exact Gaṇapati form required for the desired rite.
- Identify its maṇḍala and retinue.
- Identify required image/material construction.
- Identify mantra and offering sequence.
- Determine tantra class and initiation requirements.
- Receive empowerment/transmission where required.
- Learn the ritual from an ācārya before attempting the maṇḍala or deity generation.
- Practice the preliminary liturgy.
- Construct/visualize the maṇḍala exactly according to the chosen chapter.
- Perform offering and mantra accumulation.
- Close and dissolve/dismiss according to the manual.
Research boundary: Some old tantric application rites aim at domination, acquisition or coercion. The encyclopaedia records their existence and textual location but does not convert them into optimized instructions for controlling another person.
